What You Need to Know Before Registering!
CRPS provides student transportation services to students attending schools in Banff and Canmore.
If your child is already registered for a previous school year they do not have to be re-registered for any subsequent year, as all students registered are carried over to each new year.
If you move, please fill out a new online registration.
All Families
- Your child needs to be registered to ride the school bus to and from school. For first-time registrations, complete the “School Bus Registration 2023-24” form when filling out your school registration form through School Engage.
- Your child must have a bus pass to ride the bus! During the first weeks of school it can take up to five (5) days to process a school bus registration.
- Special needs routes are not published as they are child specific. Please call 403.678.5545 to check on the pick/drop times for your child.
- The winter months can bring bus disruptions- Please make sure you check the bus status before sending your child to the bus stop. If buses are cancelled in the morning they will be cancelled in the afternoon. Please make sure your child is dressed for the weather incase of a mechanical breakdown or other unforeseen circumstances.

Kindergarten Families
- CRPS operates a First Ride Program for first-time riders - see the information below.
- The first day of kindergarten is staggered over the first week of school. Buses DO NOT run on staggered entry days. You will be required to drop off and pick up your child on their first day.
- The first bus day for the kindergarten school bus will communicated to families directly.

Please note: All students must have a bus pass to ride CRPS buses.
For first time registrations, or to make changes to existing transportation such as a new address:
- Please access Power School Parent Portal
- Then click through to School Engage Account
- For the current school year, select your student, and fill out/submit the form "School Bus Registration 2023-24".
You will be notified via email once your registration has been processed.
Passes will take a minimum of two business days to process, and will be made available for pick up at the Transportation Office.

First Ride
Ensure your Kindergarten child is prepared for their first day of school by participating in Canadian Rockies Public Schools’ (CRPS) First Ride Program!
Offering a comprehensive introduction to CRPS’ transportation services, this FREE program is designed to familiarize students with various aspects of school transportation, ensuring a smooth transition for new riders and instilling confidence and a safe and positive experience. Through interactive sessions, CRPS’ knowledgeable staff and experienced drivers will guide students through hands-on demonstrations and engaging discussions, addressing any concerns or questions they may have. Students will learn about bus safety rules and procedures, including boarding and disembarking protocols, student code of conduct, and emergency preparedness. Parents will also have the opportunity to ride a school bus with their child, helping families to feel at ease and empowering them with confidence and peace of mind.
Parents who have participated in the program have said the program largely contributed to their child’s first day of school being a happy experience for everyone!
Two sessions will be offered for the 2023/24 school year at Elizabeth Rummel School on:
August 23 at 6 p.m. - no RSVP required
August 24 at 4 p.m. - no RSVP required
New this year, CRPS will also offer a First Ride program for students with special needs riding the division's Butterfly Bus. The program will be held at Elizabeth Rummel School on August 23 at 4 p.m. Please RSVP to crpstransportation@crps.ca

Safety on the Bus
Ensure your children are informed of the following rules to assist in a safe and enjoyable ride:
- Follow the directions of the driver.
- Classroom voices and behaviour are the rule!
- Treat others and their property with respect.
- Sit down, facing the front and keep feet out of the aisles.
- Stay in you seat until the bus comes to a complete stop.
- Move away from the "danger zone" immediately.
- No eating or drink on the bus.

As part of protocol, the following steps will be taken for those not following the rules:
- Verbal warning
- Change seat
- Private Chat
- Call to Parent
- Visit to the school office - discipline tracker/possible bus suspension
