Labour Relations 2025
October 5, 2025
An Alberta Teachers’ Association (ATA) strike begins tomorrow, Oct. 6, 2025. All schools, including distance education, are closed until further notice. School bus routes are cancelled. Please do not send your child to school or to the bus stop tomorrow.
On Oct. 2 we shared important strike information via email and on our website. Students have access to Google Classroom, but please note there will be no teacher supervision, guidance or instructional support during the strike or expectation for teachers to review or grade work submitted online during the strike.
We continue to monitor the situation and are committed to updating families as soon as possible. Any changes will be shared through email and this webpage.
Thank you for your support and understanding during this uncertain time. Please continue to monitor your email for updates as we move through the provincial bargaining process.

On September 29, 2025, the Alberta Teachers’ Association (ATA), which represents teachers and school administrators across the province, announced it will begin labour action in the form of a general strike starting Monday, October 6, 2025.
A general strike means that teachers and school administrators are required to stop all services and leave Canadian Rockies Public Schools (CRPS) facilities. All CRPS schools, including online, will be closed starting Monday, October 6.
What Families Need to Know:
- School Closures: Schools will be closed to students, and families. School offices will not have access to teacher or administrator-specific information during the strike.
- Student Belongings: Students are encouraged to take all personal belongings home by the end of the school day on October 3, 2025.
- Canadian Rockies Public Schools Division Office: Remains open.
- Transportation: Bus service will not operate. The Transportation office remains open for registration and services.
- Child Care Provider: If you have a child who attends Preschool and/or Before and After School Care, please reach out to them directly about programming.
- School Sports: All school sports (practices, games and other activities) are cancelled until further notice.
- School Council Meetings: Will be postponed until further notice.
- Alberta Government Announcement: Supports can be found at https://www.alberta.ca/parent-supports-during-school-closure
We continue to monitor the situation and are committed to updating families. We remain hopeful that the ATA and the provincial government can reach a negotiated settlement that supports all students, staff, and families soon. Thank you for your understanding during this challenging time.

The Alberta government announced two initiatives to support students and parents In response to the impending October 6, 2025 labour action by the Alberta Teachers’ Association (ATA),
Parent Payment
A parent payment program will be available to parents and guardians of students aged 12 and under. Eligible parents and guardians would receive approximately $150 per child for each week of labour action. The payments will be made monthly, commencing October 31 and will be retroactive to October 6.
Applications will be available through the Alberta.ca platform. Further details, including an instructional video on the parent support payment, will be coming soon.
Parent Toolkit
Alberta Education and Childcare has created a free toolkit that parents can use to help support their child’s independent learning if schools close due to labour action. The toolkit provides weekly resources that follow the K to 12 curriculum. Resources are available in English, French and for French Immersion.
The toolkit includes materials for two weeks of learning. Additional weeks of learning materials will be added as needed.

September 30, 2025
On the evening of September 29, the Alberta Teachers’ Association (ATA), which represents teachers and school administrators across the province, announced the ATA voted 89.5 per cent against accepting the agreement presented in provincial negotiations. A strike could proceed on October 6, 2025. Until that time, regular classroom instruction continues.
A general strike means that teachers and school administrators are required to stop all services. Therefore, all CRPS schools would close and programs including distance education and extra-curricular activities would cease. Access to schools would not be available to students or families. In the event of a strike, we strongly encourage parents to make childcare arrangements beginning October 6 as schools would be closed.
CRPS will continue to keep parents informed as information becomes available.
September 24, 2025
The Teachers’ Employers Bargaining Association (TEBA) announced TEBA and the Alberta Teachers’ Association (ATA) have reached a tentative agreement in provincial negotiations. TEBA and the ATA will enter a ratification process to vote on the proposed agreement. A final decision on the tentative agreement will be made no later than Oct. 1, 2025, based on the outcome of the votes.
Canadian Rockies Public Schools (CRPS) is hopeful a positive resolution will be found. Please note that the ATA’s strike notice remains in effect.
All CRPS schools and facilities remain open, and classes and planned activities are continuing as normal.
We will continue to provide updates and information as they are shared with CRPS.
September 15, 2025
On Friday, September 12, the Alberta Teachers’ Association (ATA) filed their legal strike notice with the Alberta Labour Relations Board, with a strike potentially beginning on October 6, 2025.
Negotiations between the ATA and the Teachers’ Employer Bargaining Association (TEBA) are set to resume next week.
At this time, instruction and activities occurring within Canadian Rockies Public Schools (CRPS) continues. However, given the provincial ATA’s filing of the strike notice, parents may wish to consider seeking childcare for their children starting October 6. We have been informed that the Canmore Community Daycare Society will continue offering regular operations during any labour disruption. At this time, we are not aware of Town of Banff childcare programming in the event of a strike. Please contact providers with further questions.
We are hopeful for a positive outcome for our students, families, and staff. We are committed to providing you with further updates and information moving forward.
General Information:
Bargaining between TEBA and the ATA occurs centrally at the provincial level. This means that items such as teacher salaries are set through the provincial collective agreement, not through individual school boards. The Board of Trustees and Senior Administration of CRPS value the contributions of all employees who support student success and we respect the provincial bargaining process.
We recognize that labour negotiations will surface questions and concerns. CRPS remains committed to providing updates to our staff, parents and communities should any changes to school instruction or operations arise.
This section of our website will be dedicated to providing updates as they become available.
