Banff Elementary Students Sing Out for Change – and Global News Listens

Canadian Rockies Public Schools extends heartfelt thanks to Jamye Doll and Global News Calgary for shining a spotlight on the voices of Banff Elementary School students during the recent G7 Finance Ministers’ retreat.

As reported by Doll, while world leaders gathered atop a mountain in Banff to tackle global issues, students gathered in the valley below with their own message for change. With support from Town of Banff Poet Laureate Heather Jean Jordan, more than 300 Kindergarten to Grade 8 students co-wrote and performed “A Single Seed” — an original song urging action on climate change, healthcare access and peace.

Global’s coverage brought attention to the heartfelt lyrics and unfiltered honesty of future voters. “We need less forest fires,” one student said. “Help with climate change. Help people that don’t have medical care.” Another added, “We have thoughts too. We want a change in the world.”

Doll’s story captured the emotion of the moment and the deep conviction behind each student voice, reminding Canadians what’s at stake for the next generation.

Canadian Rockies Public Schools is grateful to Global News for amplifying youth voices and recognizing the power of student-led advocacy. To Jamye Doll and the Global News Calgary team, “Thank you for helping our students be heard.”
